1. Who are APTS?

Arab Professional Translators Society (APTS), based in Beirut, Lebanon, is a not-for-profit association founded in the year 2000 by Dr. Nabil Chaiban; (Registration as a non-profit No. 816, Beirut, Lebanon). We facilitate interaction between Arab translators and interpreters, translation agencies and their clients. See our About APTS webpage

The President of APTS is Ms. Eman Chaiban. Our Vice President of Education and Training is Dr. Dana Awad, and our Vice President for Dictionaries and Lexicography is Mrs. Dina Kanj.

2. APTS Job Board

The Job Board – click here - is a module that allows translators to register and post their resumes, while also allowing employers to post jobs and search for registered translators. The Board also allows for communicating via the Job Board.

Yes. Creating a resume allows employers to find and review your qualifications and contact you with their jobs. Failure to create a resume eliminates any chance to be found by employers.
No. The Job Board, unlike the Accredited Members Directory, is open to all. You can post your resume and announce jobs free of charge.
3. Accredited Members Directory

The Accredited Members Directory allows members who passed the APTS Certification Test to register in the Directory, while the Job Board is open to all, including employers and job seekers. The Certified Members Page is a listing by our Member Services Department showing all members who passed the APTS test, with icons for email address, Proz.com profile, Linkedin profile, APTS Job Board resume and the APTS Digital Certificate.

Simple open the register page – click here – Complete the short form. Your account will be on hold while APTS member services verified the information provided. Meanwhile, you can start completing your profile, uploading your photo, etc. Once your account is approved, your receive an email, and all your account features will be activated.
The Directory is feature-rich. You can input your full contact details with a Google map of your location, write a full profile, upload your resume, show your website, link to your social media websites, display your Twitter and Facebook feeds, write blog articles which display on the main page, announce events, announce training courses, have your prospective clients contact you via the website, and we continue to add much more. A badge is also displayed confirming that you are an APTS accredited member.

Yes. A personal photo is a must. Profiles with missing photos and which are not completed are usually deleted within 48 hours after sending an alert to the member.
No. The Job Board is a completely separate module which is used by members to post their resumes and by employers to post jobs.
Over time, the APTS Member Directory will become the only record on our website that lists our accredited members. Failure to register in the Directory means risking removal of your records from the website. Verification of your certification will then have to be done by contacting APTS Member Services.
4. Education & Training

Yes, we do. Our courses and workshops are designed to give practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge.

Post COVID-19, we started delivering all our courses online via Zoom Meetings.

Yes. Certificates of completion are issued by APTS.
APTS provides its members with Education and Training Services, Terminology Bank, a Job Board, a Magazine where members can post their own articles, research and studies, and other services. 5. APTS Magazine

The magazine – click here – is an Arabic language magazine publishing articles, studies and research in all scientific and practical translation fields. Subject to eligibility and compliance with guidelines, APTS members can publish their articles and studies, while university professors can publish and arrange for the publication of studies and research by the students.

As a member of APTS, you are entitled to request writer privileges. First, you need to register, and then complete the Request Writer Privileges form. Once approved, you can start writing and posting your articles and/or studies and research.
Yes, you can request publishing an article/study by completing this form – click here. Once approved, APTS Member Services will post your Article and advise you of the link.
It is recommended that you use Arial size 18.
Yes, you can, provided you place a reference at the end of the Article to the writer/publisher.
6. APTS Certification
APTS provides certification testing since its inception in 2000. The certification testing is a prerequisite for APTS membership. It is intended to ensure that the translation is qualified and eligible to become a member of the Arab Professional Translators Society.
APTS provides certification examination services to members since January 2000. Please click here for a list of benefits.
To become a full member, you are required to hold a university degree and take our certification examination.

The test is comprised of 10 short passages in various subjects to be translated from and to Arabic. You have up to 2 hours to complete the test. You do not need to prepare.
The test is administered either via Zoom Meetings, or by face to face at the office of an APTS Certification Examiner in your country.
If you are a capable translator, you do not need to prepare for the test.
If you pass the test, a digital certificate is issued emailed to you. You will also be entitled register in our Accredited Members Directory where you can post your CV, photo, and full details about yourself. You can also write blog articles, post events, link to your Twitter and Facebook accounts, and much more. All services are free of charge.
You can re-apply for the test, but you will have to take it face to face at the office of an APTS Certification Examiner in your country.
The test fee per language pair is US$ 50 payable to APTS Member Services if the test is taken via Zoom Meetings, or payable to the APTS Certification Examiner if the test is taken face to face at an examiner's office.
When taking the test via Zoom Meetings, the candidate is asked to setup his/her camera and microphone to show that he/she is alone in the room, and must allow the examiner to monitor the test environment, including sharing screens.
Yes you can use any dictionaries and other online resources, but may not use Google Translate or any other similar translation tool.
